What is Iman
The 21st century witnessed a pivotal moment in the revival of Muhammadi Islam with the emergence of Sufi Emperor Hazrat Syed Mahbub-e-Khoda Dewanbagi (RA). He was divinely appointed as the Mujaddid of our time, receiving the sacred title "Reviver of Muhammadi Islam" directly from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a majestic spiritual vision.
Iman (إِيمَان), meaning "firm belief" or "faith", is the bedrock of Muhammadi Islam. It is not merely a verbal affirmation but a profound conviction that resides deep within the heart. It signifies:
Unwavering belief in the One and Only Almighty Allah (SWT)
Absolute belief in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the final Messenger of Allah
Complete and unwavering faith in the entire religion brought by him
True Iman is considered a special divine light (Noor) that Allah bestows upon the hearts of His chosen servants – the prophets and saints. It is attainable through sincere spiritual effort and a genuine connection with Allah and His Messenger.
Muhammadi Islam, Iman is categorised into two main types
The Five Kalimas: Unveiling Spiritual Realities
Iman-e-Mujmal (إِيمَانِ مُجْمَل)
Summarized Declaration of Faith This is the basic, comprehensive belief in Allah and His Messenger. It is typically expressed through the declaration of the Kalima Tayyibah, affirming the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). It is the gateway to Islam.
Iman-e-Mufassal (إِيمَانِ مُفَصَّل)
This encompasses a detailed belief in
- Allah (SWT)
- His Angels
- His Divine Books (Quran, Torah, Gospel, Psalms, etc.)
- His Messengers (from Adam to Muhammad, PBUH))
- The Day of Judgment
- The Pre-ordainments of good and evil (Destiny)
- Resurrection after death

The Five Kalimas are foundational declarations that express the core tenets of Islam. In Muhammadi Islam, each Kalima is understood not just as a recitation but as a pathway to deeper spiritual realisation and divine closeness. They represent ascending levels of spiritual understanding and connection.
